Racial Inequality

Los Angeles is the sixth most racially-segregated metropolitan area in the United States. Racial disparities exist in politics, education, and economic opportunities. Minority communities, mainly those with majority Black and Latino residents, often face discrimination and unequal treatment. In 2020, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a motion to establish an Anti-Racist Los Angeles. This was hoped to address “generational inequality and systemic anti-Black racism.” Racism in communities of color has resulted in significant inequalities in family stability, health and well-being, education, employment, economic development, public safety, criminal justice, and housing. This shows how racial inequality is entwined with many other social justice issues.
